Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, Alderman T. Anthony Zielinski from the 14th District announced that he will introduce an amendment to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's 2015 executive budget, if he doesn't include body cameras for Milwaukee police officers. Alderman Zielinski in his Facebook account posted, "Wearable body cameras for Milwaukee police officers should be included in Mayor Tom Barrett's proposed 2015 executive budget. If the Mayor does not include this in his budget I will submit a budget amendment to accomplish this goal.
The small cameras record the interactions officers have with citizens, and also document calls for service. These cameras offer the public a clear record of what transpired, and for officers who followed the law and followed procedure--but who are wrongfully accused - the footage can provide irrefutable vindication.
Given current events, I believe these cameras are a good investment which can increase overall transparency while providing a clear record of what occurs during a given call for service."

Body cameras for police have been long overdue in Milwaukee, one of the most segregated cities in Wisconsin. The cameras will help minimize in appropriate and questionable actions by officers during field interactions with citizens or suspects.
